Girlguiding Royal Berkshire County Standard

Royal Berkshire County Stanard


Above is the Guiding Trefoil and the Golden Jubilee symbol, as the Standard was dedicated in 1960.

It was commissioned by the then County Commissioner, Dame Ann Parker-Bowles and made at the Convent of Good Shepherd in Windlesham, Surrey.

  • The County Badge being a Stag upon a Mount eating an Oak Tree.
  • The Motto - Be Prepared.
  • A Race-horse - South East Division in which is Ascot Racecourse.
  • Windsor Castle - North East Division.
  • An Acorn - Symbolises the amount of Woodland in the County and Forest Division.
  • Donnington Castle - An Ancient monument in South Division.
  • The White Horse - representsthe Vale of the White Horse. (This is now in Oxfordshire)
  • Cockleshell - From the coat of arms of Reading Abbey and represents the Abbey Division.
  • Through the centre of the County flows the River Thames. This is symbolised by the wavy line and also represents the Riverside Division.
