- Community Action in Action
3rd Slough Guides

3rd Slough Guides have continued to support 3 girls in Nepal. They have also just started raising money to visit them as well as take money for them in 2010. Whilst they are there, they will be involved in community action within the village and school the 3 girls attend. The Guides have also completed a swimathon on 5th October 2008 as a fundraiser too.
The Unit has also raised money for the Church where they meet to buy a projector and a dishwasher. This was done through having a stall at the Eton Action Community Fair where they sold cakes, jams and pickles.
1st Pangbourne Guides "&" Pangbourne Valley Rangers
Each year around March we join a Pangbourne conservation group and help to litter pick and clear the river Lambourne in Shaw, Newbury.
4th Caversham Brownies
We regularly plant trees (twice a year) in our local neighbourhood. We help our church community by holding a stall at the summer and autumn church fetes. Every year we go to our local home for the elderly in December and sing carols.
2nd Bullbrook Brownies
We do various things involving local and the wider community:
- Carol singing outside Tesco for Save the Children
- Carol singing at local home for frail elderly people
- Man check points for 3 county cycle rides
- Fill shoeboxes for Samaritans purse charity
2nd Warfield Brownies
For 25 years we have tended the gardens at the entrance to Warfield memorial ground, which they established themselves when the lych gate was erected there. 2nd Warfield Brownies having since been formed (1990) have taken this project on as their own and regularly litter pick on and around Warfield memorial ground. All Warfield Brownie Packs (now 4) litter pick during the annual village fete in June, spreading the message ' KEEP WARFIELD TIDY'
At Christmas we always perform a 'Christmas Entertainment' for a local sheltered housing scheme. The Brownies choose and rehearse their chosen pieces as well as the pack performing one main item. This has become an annual community activity as the elderly residents always ask us and look forward to the event.
2nd Newbury Guides
As part of Newbury District Guide Association for Thinking Day we raised money for The Honduran Guide Association's 'Buy a Brick' campaign, helping to raise money for their new HQ building in Tegucigalpa.
As a unit we had a red party where the Guides bought their friends to the meeting and paid £2.00 to wear red, which raised money for Comic relief.
The Guides took part in the fill a shoebox campaign for Samaritans Purse; they managed to send out 7 boxes.
The Guides raised money for Children's Leukaemia though doing the Cheeky Monkey Challenge. They had to cook a 3 course meal using 26 ingredients, which the leaders served up.
1st Shinfield Guides
For community action, we have visited Feed the Children in Ruscombe near Twyford to help with packing. We have done a litter pick around our hall and we have done fund raising for various charities.
1st Priestwood Brownies & Guides
1st Priestwood Brownies and 1st Priestwood Guides have a regular commitment (once a term) to cleaning their local church and litter picking their local play park. They also raise money for water aid (per year) and this term are collecting donations (food/blankets/pillows) for their local dog rescue centre)
